A doula is a non medical support person who provides care to a family throughout their pregnancy and birth journey and beyond into parenthood.

Doulas provide physical, mental and emotional support, evidence based information and continuity of women-centred care, combined with their unique experience of witnessing the full spectrum of birth.

As a doula my role is to empower families to trust their bodies, listen to their intuition and make informed and empowered decisions for themselves and their baby.

The presence of a doula allows the birth partner to fully support and be present with their partner, so a doula can do any other important jobs such as creating a calm birth environment, hydrating the mother, applying heat or cool packs, acupressure and massage, etc.

Studies have shown that mothers that have had support from a doula, have more positive outcomes regarding feelings and satisfaction about their birth.

“I didn’t know I wanted a doula, until I had one. I started my pregnancy journey with pure joy and excitement. It didn’t take long before the sun disappeared, leaving me overwhelmed and without a voice. As my doula, Ellen opened my eyes to the beauty in pregnancy and birth. She reminded me to trust myself and enlightened me with facts. Ellen also gave my partner everything he needed to be actively involved. Together we gained knowledge and power to control our journey of welcoming our perfect baby boy. I would not be blessed with the best birth story without my doula, who I now consider family.
